Money Laundering, Assault and Battery

“So, what’r y’all in for?”

Money laundering involves disguising financial assets so they can be used without detection of the illegal activity that produced them. Through money laundering, the criminal transforms the monetary proceeds derived from criminal activity into funds with an apparently legal source.

Assault and battery are two separate criminal offenses that involve the threat of or actual physical harm to another person:

  • Assault is the act of causing someone to reasonably fear imminent harm. For example, if someone pulls their fist back to punch another person, that is assault.

  • Battery is the act of unlawfully physically harming someone. For example, if someone punches another person and makes contact, that is battery.
